offering a range of geological environments
and awe-inspiring views of mountains, val-
leys, the Kenmare Bay and Beara Peninsula.
The walk is mostly on tracks with a short
stretch over farmland. Walking boots are rec-
ommended. Refreshments will be provided
en route at a local farm (for which a donation
will be requested). Sorry, no dogs.
Your guide for this 12km walk is our local
geologist and chairman of Kerry Geopark,
Dr. Michael Smith.

absent-minded and may not know how to

There are prizes in all categories and entries
must be received at the stage by 6pm. So
show the judges the pick of your prize pro-
duce, your beautiful bouquets and your
miniature green fingered gardens. There will
also be the ever popular Horticultural Quiz to
test your gardening knowledge.

the 1990s that consists of rolling downhill
inside of a usually transparent, double-hulled
sphere called a Zòrb made from PVC.
The original concept, Zorbing, originated in
New Zealand as the brainchild of Dwane van
der Sluis and Andrew Akers. In 1967 they con-
ceived the idea of the spheres in Rotorua,
New Zealand. The inside of the original zorb
has several straps to keep the rider in place.

Green woodworking is the art of making any-

ancient technique.
Watch Sneem resident Kathy using her spin-
ning wheel to turn fleeces into wool, and
have a chance to buy some of her home spun
and knitted items. Look out for Kathy spin-
ning under the Festival Cover on other days
as well, weather permitting.

revived! There is a very strong tradition of
Shearing competitions in this area, it started
during the Wool & Lamb Festival over 40
years ago. We expect a lot of interest in this
event from both local and visiting competi-
tors and indeed from recent competitors who
took part in the All Ireland Sheep Shearing
Competition in Kilkenny.
The competition includes;
Open Junior Machine Shearing Competition
for first time competitors.
Intermediate Machine Shearing Competition
for those have taken the Blue Seal Course.
Senior Machine Shearing Competition for
those higher than the Blue Seal Course.
Open Machine Shearing Competition.
Open Hand Shearing Competition, the tradi-
tional method of shearing sheep.
Local Hand Shearing Competition confined
to South Kerry’s area.

events - so if you have been enjoying all the
free entertainment this is your chance to put
something back into the Festival, whilst giving
yourself the chance of winning the €500 first
prize, second prize, a beautiful print of
Sneem given by Brushwood Studios, or other
prizes kindly donated by supporters of the
Festival. Balls are available in most shops,
and at some of the events, so please be gen-
erous and show your appreciation. Then
make sure you are there to witness the balls
bounce down the road towards St Michael’s
Church, and see if your ball gets to the end
first.
